August 17: The drowsy day!

Ohhhkayy… So it’s almost a month since I actually wrote in my food diary. Not a good thing but I did restart it! That should count for something. No?

So here goes. Yesterday wasn’t bad. I had a good breakfast of half cup dal (lentil curry) and 1 and a quarter homemade dosa. Of course, being the weekend, this was accompained with a glass of water and a 1.5 cups tea. I know I know. But it was good and healthier than a deep fried stuff that I can have for breakfast.

An hour and a half later, I fell asleep for a real good 4 hrs. My dinner, or should I call it linner, started at 7 PM. I finished off the remaining three quarters of the dosa and the remaining half cup of dal. Yummy! Then I also had half a cup of halwa, a delicious sweet made of equal amounts of suji, ghee, and sugar with a few almonds thrown in. Somehow, while eating this, I had the vague idea that this desert wasn’t actually going to help me lose weight. Strange aint it? ;)

Predictably, by the time it was 10:30 PM I was hungry again. Had three quarters of a cup of chana dal (another kind of lentil) namkeen. I think this was is the roasted kind but I won’t hold my breath. Knowing my tendency, it most probably is the deep fried variety! Ah!

Well tomorrowz another day! Wish me luck. :)

25th July 2008: The day of indulgence!

Every weight loss advice I read has something about keeping a food diary. So I tried my hand at various versions – in an actual diary, a notebook, in a spreadsheet, and even in document form. Got bored after some time for each type of diary.

Then a few days ago, I hit this brilliant idea – why not blog it away, especially since I have wanted a subject to blog (write) regularly with. This could be a creative way to list down everything I eat and improve my writing skills at the same time. Now all I need to do is to ensure that I write regularly… with my history, I need lots of luck with that.

So let’s start with yesterday… 25th July 2008

Breakfast was a tasty fried egg (less oil) with two pieces of whole wheat bread, a glass of water, and cup of tea. Yummy! Lunch was a takeaway… half a spicy chicken and spinach enchilada, half serving of hot pepper chicken, and half a serving of hot and spicy prawns. Of course, I also had the half cup of raw vegetable salad and two scoops of ice cream.

In the evening, I had this drink called thandai. It is made from milk, spices, and dry fruit. I also had a 1 chocolate chip biscuit (not cookie). Dinner was two pieces of whole wheat bread and 1 cup of homemade chicken curry cooked with 1 tsp of oil. Yessss! I cooked it. Hee hee. That was followed up by one scoop of ice cream.

Ok. Now that I read it, this is too much for my extremely sedentary lifestyle but then my sister was here. So I had an excuse. The same excuse holds partially true for today too – but I have tried not to indulge too much. Will see how I fare tomorrow. (Still have to see if I am able to hold out and not have dinner today.)

Ciao!
